Destination weddings- Philly
Domestic Destination Weddings – Philly is THE Place!
When people think about destination weddings, they often think about islands, or Florida Keys, or maybe a cruise.  The destination wedding trend peaked around 2006, and while the trend is not going away, it is being joined by a sister trend; Domestic Destination Weddings.
So just what does that mean?
A Domestic Destination Wedding takes place in the U.S., just not in the same town that the couple lives in.  They select a city they have always wanted to see, has great wedding venues, great food or great history.  Let us just say that we love this new trend, and believe Philly is one of the best places to have a Domestic Destination Wedding, because we fulfill all those things!  Need proof? Read on.
Reason #1: The Venues
Name another city where you can get a city skyline, a country field, a river view, an urban graffiti backdrop, and/or an historic palate?  Philadelphia can give you all of these.  Hold your ceremony at the Kimmel Center then head outside to get photos by city hall or in one of the back grafitti streets.  Or get married at the Franklin Institute, and head outside for photos by the fountains, or art museum steps.  Have your wedding at Beat Street Station and get photos on the nearby train tracks, or choose from one of the many mansions available through Fairmount Park.  Choose Bartrams Gardens and get photos in their stone barn, as well as their field with the city skyline in the background  (see the top photo!). Hop on a double decker bus tour (you can pre purchase tickets for you, your party and your photographer and take photos throughout the city, time permitting) and get your photos all around the city!  Love the arts?  Hold your wedding at Philadelphia Magic Gardens or The Painted Bride, and find yourself surrounded by original art and mosaics.  Want a wedding on the water? We can do that too! The Spirit of Philadelphia offers amazing packages for weddings.
Reason #2: Your food options.  Philly is home to several award winning caterers who have catered events for celebrities and politicians. Garces catering is well known throughout the city and gives you a ton of choices; they can cater your event at the venue of your choice, or pull their taco truck up to your event at the end of the night!  Stephen Starr catering is another award winner, and is the exclusive caterer to Philadelphia’s newest venue, the New Liberty Distillery.  If you are looking for a fun food experience, you can take your vows at Reading Terminal Market and serve your guests some goodies from the many restaurants and end with a treat from the Dutch Bakery.  You can also combine the two; serve an elegant dinner, and end the night with Philly cheesesteaks given out as favors via the South Philly Experience
Reason #3: The History.
If you are a history buff, Philadelphia is your city.  Say your vows at Christ’s Church, Philadelphia’s oldest church whose church members include Benjamin Franklin and Betsy Ross.  Take a stroll down Elfreths Alley, Philadelphia’s oldest and most colorful street, and The Mall of Independence Hall and the Constitution Center are also great backdrops and allow bridal parties.  Take your photos at George Washington’s homestead or in front of Ben Franklin’s post office, or head to the Fireman’s Hall Museum (also another great venue, and did you know the fire department was started by Ben  Franklin?).

Reason #4: One of the best cities for a pop up wedding.
This trend is not going away either (for more info about what a pop up wedding is, click here).  Philly offers more possible locations for this kind of wedding; The Art Museum steps, the multiple statues throughout the city (get married by the Rocky Statue, or the Joan of Arc statue on Kelly Drive), Fairmount Park, Penn’s Landing or Race Street Pier
Convinced yet?  We’ll post again later about the amazing hotels Philadelphia offers, the spas available for primping either before or on the big day, and the many ways to get around Philadelphia as a bride and groom.  We love our city!
