Book Your Fall Family Session Early
Fall is just around the corner and bookings are filling up fast! Book your fall family session soon with your favorite Philadelphia family photographer (BG Productions of course!). Philadelphia fall photos are one of our favorites to shoot. Picture it now: the weather has started to cool off but it’s not cold yet, warm soft sweaters, beautiful fall colors, and maybe even pumpkins! We’ve got some tips and things to think about when booking your fall photo session with us.
Why should BG Productions take your photos?
If you’ve ever had a session with us before or met us, you know we are a lot of fun! It’s basically a chance for us to hang out with you and capture your true self and your family interacting in a natural way. If you have been taking your own family photos for years, chances are someone is missing from those photos: YOU! Let’s get your whole family together to get those photos you’ve been dreaming of. You may be thinking “But it’s very cheap to go to the mall and get our photos done there.” And it’s true you can go to a mall studio and you probably have in the past. But those are not the kind of photos we do. We spend time with you and your family and get your personalities to shine through. It’s a complete experience with BG Productions that makes your photos so special.
Philadelphia Fall Photos
Think about location! There’s a lot of places inside the city to do some really cute photos during the fall. Walking around the Philadelphia Art Museum, Wissahickon Valley Park, The Morris Arboretum, or just exploring the streets in fun neighborhoods like Northern Liberties. If you want to venture outside the city there are some nearby awesome places like Longwood Gardens, Ridley Creek State Park, French Creek State Park or Valley Forge National Historical Park. Believe it or not, a really great spot for your family photos is actually your very own backyard. You don’t have to travel far, if you’ve got a big family with small kids everything you need is steps away and we can also move inside and do some fun lifestyle shots in your home.
What to Bring and Wear
You always want to dress comfortably (and cute!) for any photos session no matter what time of year. Fall can be full of surprises because it could be unseasonably warm or have a random snow storm. If time allows, it’s always a good idea to bring a change of clothes to get a different look. Although if you have a family of 6, this could be very time consuming and maybe not the best idea. A good alternative is to dress in layers so an outfit change is as simple as taking off a sweater and putting on a new necklace. Think coordinating outfits so everyone looks great together and don’t clash or mix too many different patterns. But it’s also not 1985, so the days of everyone wearing matching white outfits are probably not what you’re going for.
Depending on the look you want for your photos, props can be a fun additive to give your pics personality. Certain toys can keep your children occupied and happy, things like books can add a fun fairy tale-like flair to you photos. One of our favorite “props” (just kidding they obviously aren’t props) is the WHOLE family and that includes pets! Just have a game plan for if there will be photos you might not want your pets included in. We want everyone to be happy and safe during your shoot.
Be Prepared for Your Shoot
There are certain things you can do to be prepared for your shoot but keep in mind too that going with the flow makes for a low-key shoot that is enjoyable for everybody! You won’t be able to control everything. But there are a few things you can do like:
- Have younger family members rested and fed before the shoot (although please avoid foods with red and orange dyes until you want stains on kids faces)
- Allow plenty of extra time to be ready. Especially with young ones, sometimes they need to acclimate to a new environment before they’re happy campers
- Bring activities to do as a family like games or a picnic
- It’s TOTALLY FINE for not everyone to be looking at the camera and fully cooperating. Candid shots are so cute and shows your real family as who they are. Fun shots where kids aren’t looking is much better then ones where they’re upset because they are forced into an unnatural situation.
Thanks for stopping by the BG Productions Blog and we are excited to meet you and your family for your fall family photos!
